Regards,

Clare

Dear Andy,

First, welcome to the smoking group run by Ike, Clare, Nils and Hanna.
We all feel very strongly that people should not smoke. Unfortunately, we all have family members who do smoke and this upsets us very much. We think that there is a way we can convince people to stop smoking as well as show them how bad it is for you.

We are going to try to convince people to stop smoking by showing them how bad it is for their lungs. It is also bad for the people around them to breathe in their smoke. Both ways could cause them to get very sick and die.

We hope you like this idea and have a some suggestions. As a group, we would like to schedule a meeting with you to discus this further. See our attached schedule of times to meet. The spaces in black are the times we can not meet.

Sincerely,

Clare, Ike, Nils and Hanna external image pdf.png Gr5 Exhibition meeting Schedule 11-12.pdf

  • Dear Dr. Betson

  • We are students at Hong Kong Academy studying anti-smoking for the grade 5 Exhibition. Our focus is to inform the greater community about how bad smoking is for them. We are trying to make people think about quitting smoking or not even starting in the first place. As part of our end of the year project, we are having a final exhibition. As part of our Primary research, we would like to interview you on tobacco control.

  • We would like to interview you so we could get information on Tobacco Control in Hong Kong and how it is related to health concerns. As a group we would like to ask you some questions about Tobacco control, health and how you and the Hong Kong government are approaching it.

  • We were wondering if you could meet with us, either at our school, your office or elsewhere. If this is not possible, would you be available for a Skype interview.

  • Yours truly,

  • Clare Clayton, (On behalf of the anti-smoking group)

  • Dear Teachers,

  • Hello. We are the anti- smoking group for the grade five exhibition, which is going on now, and we are wondering if you can let us know some great experiments related to smoking. For part of our action, we are to do an experiment for the high school students. Therefore, we want to show how smoking affects your hearth in a more interesting way then simply telling them "Smoking is bad for your health, never do it." In a nutshell, can you give us some smoking experiments we could do in words or a video, and maybe in person. We just need some ideas. Let me know so I can uptate my group and my mentor, Andy Birch. Thankyou.

  • Yours Sincerely,

  • Ike May (Class 5TS)

Dear Teachers,

We are the Anti-Smoking group from the Grade Five Exhibition. Our goal is to prevent people from taking up smoking. We want to stop people from smoking, or at least make them aware that it causes deadly diseases and illnesses that can lead to death. It is harder to stop people from doing it when they have been doing it for awhile, so we want to encourage people to not start. For our action, we are encouraging middle/high schoolers to not start smoking because they are at the most risk of starting to smoke. We would like to do a little experiment for them to demonstrate how bad smoking is.

Okay, this is your choice, and it involves your room spelling a little bad. We have been collecting old cigarette butts and putting them in a bag, and let me tell you, it does not smell the best. As part of our experiment my group and I want to put the bag` in one of the middle/high school classrooms, so when they come in the will react instantly. On the side, we will be videoing their reactions. We then have a smoking video, which we have made, to show them. Before our experiment we will be sending a survey to see how Middle schoolers feel about smoking and then following the experiment will send another survey to see if we have helped discourage any students from smoking. Oh, and don’t worry, your rooms will be sprayed with air freshener and we will definitely take out the cigarettes. This entire presentation should take no longer than 20minutes and would probably best be done in the afternoon so that the room is not smelly all day.

Do you want your students to smoke? Probably not, and this a great opportunity to encourage them to not smoke. Thank you!

Yours Sincerely from our group,

Ike (Class 5TS)
